Despite the growing popularity of physically interactive game-playing, no user studies have been conducted on dance gaming (one of the most popular forms of playing via full-body movements). An online questionnaire was used to study various factors related to Dance Dance Revolution (DDR) gaming. In total, 556 respondents from 22 countries of ages 12 to 50 filled in a questionnaire which examined the players' gaming background, playing styles and skills, motivational and user experience factors, social issues, and physical effects of dance gaming, and taking part in dance-gaming related activities. The results show that playing DDR has a positive effect on the social life and physical health of players, as it improves endurance, muscle strength and sense of rhythm, and creates a setting where new friends can be found.

NERO
for a day when I have time to play...

NERO utilizes state-of-the-art academic artificial intelligence research in order to demonstrate its effectiveness in a game environment. The game uses AI to allow simulated robotic agents to cope with changing environments and situations, and form adaptive tactical solutions. The end result is a game that adapts itself to the strategies desired by the player, while still allowing the AI-controlled entities to operate as autonomous agents.

Nexuiz
downloading this now...

All of Nexuiz is licensed under the GPL, including the core engine, the textures, maps, sounds, and models. It is extremely modder friendly. Because of its GPL license status, it can be included in any Linux distros or packages and is entirely free.

Nexuiz is built on the power of the Darkplaces engine, which is a heavily modified version of the original Quake. Darkplaces features realtime lighting and stencil shadows, bumpmapping, gloss, bloom, and totally rewritten network code that supports up to 64 players on a single server. While quality gameplay was our primary goal, it's graphics technology and artwork allows the game to compete with the current quality of commercial games.

Unreal Tournament Mods FAQ
So I downloaded the linux version of UT2K4 a while back. I haven't tried it yet mainly because my sis video chipset struggles with plain UT... sigh.

This is meant to be a cross-platform FAQ: while most UT players run it on PCs under Windows, quite a few use Macs, and some (like me) use Linux PCs. I've tried to split off Windows, Mac and Linux specifics into colour-coded sections where possible.

Some bits are still Windows-specific (backslashes in paths, etc.) but it should be easy enough for a Linux or Mac user to work out their equivalent.

use it or loose it

Microsoft in talks with SiS on Xbox2 south bridge order
The best thing I can say about SiS is at least their not Via. I have not been impressed with the performance of my averatec 3120v or my Shuttle SS40G, for Office and INternet type task the machine was OK. Severely hampered by a lack of a AGP slot, the PCI card I put in managed to turn in mildly decent performance. The Averatec barely plays UT at 640 x 480 and UT2K3 is not possible to even load. Part of this is of course the 3D chipset. I realize that, but hey my point is SiS seems like the third run.

Via ticked me off with the Abit KT7A-RAID boards which went through almost bi-weekly drivers upgrades. Sure I didn't need to upgrade that often, but hey they should have their act together enough that thye don't need to patch every two weeks. I think the answer is that microsoft is chasing a slipping margin. At this rate expect the third xbox, possibly the Xbox3D to actually be a desireable system :P

Microsoft is in talks with Taiwan-based Silicon Integrated Systems (SiS) on potential orders for a south bridge chip for the Xbox2 game console, according to high-level SiS sources.

Parsec Homepage
whoa!

January 28, 2003 -- We are currently preparing the entire code base of Parsec for a full source release in early May 2003, which will mark a major change in the structure of the Parsec Project.

The source release will include platform support for Win32, MacOS X, and GNU/Linux, and contain both OpenGL and Glide rendering code. It will include almost everything that has been part of the earlier LAN-Test releases, as well as our new client/server code that is already far along in development. However, it is our hope that this release will be picked up by the Parsec community for further development, supported by members of the original Parsec Project.

Parsec is a fast-paced non-commercial network space-shooter that has been in development for several years. It started out in 1996 as a lab project at the Vienna University of Technology, but has transcended its original roots to become what we would like to refer to as commercial-quality freeware (CQF).
