movabletype with adsense vs ypn yahoo publisher network
I switched my individual archives over to yahoo publisher ads. I'm going to leave the pages like that for a while, so far the data isn't conclusive, but I'm leaning back to adsense.
I'll update this in a few days.
I made the jump to 3.2 as well for MovableType.
I saved the data before the upgrade, and there were a number of gotchas.
Number one, if you don't have nice url permalinks, you need to change the "Individual Entry Archive" to:
<$MTEntryID pad="1"$>.html
I did not and it defaults to creating nice new permalinks based on the title. This is great exept I was rebuilding a parallel blog site I just created instead of the new layout I wanted. All the changes were showing up on the new site addresses and not the url's that were indexed by search engines.
Update: Today is Thursday, the last day I'm running ypn ads... I haven't computed the total loss, but I'm guessing close to 60% less revenue than adsense. I blame it on the weaker context sensitivity. Actual percentages posted tomorrow.
Update!
google october 7-13
yahoo october 14-20
loss revenue -40.30%
I compared revenue from the google during October 7th thru 13th, with revenue from yahoo for a similar span of time October 14-20th.
I lost 40percent of the monies I would have had as a result of running the yahoo adds.
Number one reason, they are not as contextual! I'd consider trying them again, but on a much smaller scale. This is my gadget money we're talking about!
