Kensington Locks Vulnerable

Update: If you are using a Kensington Lock, or some models of Targus they are vulnerable. I suggest you stop using them because they will lull you into a false sense of security. I also suggest you familiarize yourself with popping your hard drive out of your laptop. Separating your data from the laptop means you will not lose everything if it is stolen while traveling.

SECURITY LABORATORIES NEW REPORTS AND SECURITY ALERTS
oops!

All users of the Kensington cable lock model 64038 to secure their notebook computers are at risk of theft. Although Kensington advertises that they are liable for up to a value of $1500 if your computer is stolen, the terms of this agreement DO NOT cover theft by means other than by force. If you are utilizing this lock, your computer can be easily stolen and will not be subject to the anti-theft warranty. The author does not recommend the use of this device, as it is not secure against a simple method of covert entry which can be accomplished within thirty seconds, does not damage the lock, and requires no expertise.
