This paper assesses the outstanding performance advantages of the HP ProLiant DL145 architecture. In the document, we compare performance to the HP ProLiant DL140 with Intel® Xeon™ DP processors. Both the ProLiant DL145 and DL140 reside within the same 32-bit target market space, and the ProLiant DL140 is itself an excellent performer. In February 2004, HP conducted internal benchmarking to quantify the performance advantage of the AMD Opteron-based ProLiant DL145 over the Intel-based ProLiant DL140 on WebBenchTM 5.0. The internal benchmarking results showed excellent performance and scalability results for the ProLiant DL145. Performance Results The performance measurements were conducted on the 32-bit version of Microsoft® Windows Server 2003 using Ziff Davis Media Inc.’s WebBench™ 5.0 benchmark. The benchmark results showed:
  • The 2P ProLiant DL145 is 57% faster than the ProLiant DL140.
  • The 1P ProLiant DL145 is 44% faster than the ProLiant DL140.
  • The ProLiant DL145 with dual processors achieved a 39% higher performance score than with a single processor.
The ProLiant DL140 only showed 28% performance scalability. This represents a 39% processor scalability advantage for the ProLiant DL145 over the ProLiant DL140. Overall System Performance For dual processor configurations, the ProLiant DL145 server with 2.2GHz processors outperformed the ProLiant DL140 server using 3.2GHz Intel Xeon processors by an average of 57%. For single processor configurations, the ProLiant DL145 with 2.2GHz outperformed the ProLiant Dl140 server using 3.2GHz Intel Xeon processors by an average of 44%.
