64 Bit Linux From SuSE Suitable For Opteron and AMD64 Processors
SUSE GNU/Linux 9.0 AMD64
w00t w00t w00t! Be kind, a Bit Torrent would be nice!
Note this is info and links for downloading the FTP version, these are not the ISO's that SuSE sells, although the point release is supposed to be equivalent. Differences include no bootable media for installation (this version requires network or local storage) and absence of some programs that are not freely distribuatable.
SUSE now offers SUSE GNU/Linux 9.0 AMD64 free of charge for direct
download from the SUSE FTP server. The FTP version is the same as the
retail version -- minus a few program packages excluded due to
licensing restrictions. Installation support also is not included. The SUSE GNU/Linux 9.0 AMD64 FTP version is suitable for installation via ftp,
nfs, or hard disk. It is not possible to generate installation CDs from a
complete download. A mirror of the complete 9.0 FTP directory on your local
network can also be used to install systems via NFS.Before you start, please read the installation guideline
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/GNU/Linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/x86_64/9.0/README.FTPThe path to the installation directory is
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/x86_64/If possible, please use a mirror in your vicinity.

This SuSE GNU/Linux 9.0 installation tree is suitable for installation via ftp, http, nfs, smb or hard disk.
System requirementsYou need at least 128MB main memory. To install on a machine with less
memory a (GNU/Linux) swap partition is necessary.
Preparationo booting from CD
Download the iso image boot/boot.iso and burn a CD with it.
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/x86_64/9.0/boot/Installation
Boot from that CD and at the bootpromt enter the installation source:
GNU/Linux install=ftp://ftp_server/directory
Remember to substitute 'ftp_server' and 'directory' with the appropriate
values (e.g. install=ftp://[IP-ADDRESS]/pub/suse/x86_64/9.0 if you're
installing from the SuSE ftp server).
Alternatively, choose 'manual installation' and configure the network in
the installation program.

I would like to get a set of benchmarks, showing the difference between Suse 9.0 Pro 32bit and 64bit.
But there is a couple of problems, I can only do a acpi disabled or safe install of the 64bit version.
Once install cannot get internet access due to the following:-
SuSE Meta pppd (smpppd-ifcfg), Version 1.06 on linux.
Status is: disconnected
trying to connect to smpppd
connect to smpppd
Status is: disconnected
Status is: connecting
pppd[0]: Plugin pppoatm.so loaded.
pppd[0]: PPPoATM plugin_init
pppd[0]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded.
pppd[0]: PPPoATM setdevname - remove unwanted options
pppd[0]: PPPoATM setdevname_pppoatm - SUCCESS:0.38
pppd[0]: failed to create socket: Address family not supported by protocol
Status is: disconnected
pppd[0] died: Fatal pppd error (exit code 1)
So waiting for Suse Tech to come back with a solution
good comment. GREAT job
Great news!
Have you seen any benchmarks for 64bit SUSE and AMD64?
