Motorola adopts GNU/Linux for future mobile phones: GNU/LinuxDevices.com - the embedded GNU/Linux portal
Great news. There are two fronts, the server market and the embedded design market, in which I will include handsets. These two fronts move in pincer movement towards a ubiquitous desktop environment. That environment will run on GNU/Linux.

The A760 handset (pictured[...]), Motorola's initial GNU/Linux/Java handset offering, combines the functions of a mobile phone, PDA, digital camera, video player, MP3 player, speakerphone, messaging, Internet access, and Bluetooth wireless technology. Motorola says they will initially launch the A760 in Asia in 2003. Its embedded GNU/Linux OS was supplied by MontaVista Software.
