DVB-S DVB PCMCIA Receiver Card
DVB is MPEG-2 video. Currently hundreds of channels are shown in the clear on various C and Ku band satellites. A Ku dish is approx 30 inches and the most popular satellite is T5 which if you look at the channel list covers a wide range of foreign interest channels. This is particularly strong, and easy to find signal. The Dish Network uses similar technology but with authentication requirements. The DirecTV is a closed format.
This card is the first PCMCIA card. And according to the brochure GNU/Linux is covered. There are numerous other DVB-S products are out there, most in PCI form factors. DVB-S GNU/Linux support is very strong. Flexibility on the source for the digital stream, could mean that this could have applications in portable high-bandwidth teleconferences...

Plain Digital is pleased to announce the world's first PCMCIA DVB receiver - the "DTV-A1". This "All-In-One" solution is capable of receiving any DVB compliant transport stream whether the source is a satellite, cable or terrestrial transmission.

Take it on the road! Simply switch the interchangeable external tuner modules and you have a portable satellite or cable DVB compliant set-top box. Switch it again and turn your laptop into a mobile terrestrial digital TV receiver. Need to troubleshoot someone's broadcast network? Your computer becomes a portable/mobile transport stream analyzer. Want to surf or watch streaming video? Hang ten on the DTV-A1! Tune in, turn on and take off!

You see, without DTV-A1, your laptop is just a laptop. With the DTV-A1, you'll enjoy DVB MPEG-2 digital video and audio along with full DVB Data Broadcasting reception. With DTV-A1, your laptop computer will empower you. So take your laptop and go. We know you won't be disappointed.
