[...] pretty serious vindication of the GNU/Linux network stack. For a very long time, GNU/Linux wasn't thought of as being stable enough to handle an IRC server. Applicants for networks were basically told to install FreeBSD or go away. twisted proved that wrong by handling at times over 50,000 concurrent clients on a single-processor AMD box, which is pretty damn impressive.
