Samsung 191T 19'' LCD Review :: comments from the trenches
Ken Rury has made the leap and plunked down hard cash for one of these sweet monitors. His in-depth comments on the 191t should be read by anyone considering one!
I still haven't made the jump but I'm close. Boy am I so close.
I see eCost.com has these at $769
I think we could see $695 before the end of January...

Samsung 193V
I bought the 193V in the middle of June 03. I was told that the 193V was the upcoming replacement of the 191N and the LCD panels were essentially the same. Before taking the plunge I was using an SGI 1600SW w DVI.
Thus far I don't have many complaints about the monitor. Actually I find the monitor rather bright and don't have any issues with icons in Paint Shop Pro or any other programme. As compared with the SGI, text on the 193V isn't as sharp but I enable clear type so text sharpness doesn't really bother me. There is some text blurring on webpages but I find that it's a problem that has occurred with most LCDs I've owned.
The 193V has a pixel response of 25ms but there are still traces of ghosting, especially when running games that are darker (Wolfenstein etc). I'm not an overly avid gamer so it really doesn't bother me too much. Given that the 193V is a lower end model, it doesn't have DVI.
On the whole, I think the 193V performs pretty well for its price and it targted at office and home users. For more information you can check out the link below:

If you want a 19' panel that is sharper and has faster response times, you can check out the top of the line Sharp models. Thus far they're the only 19' panels that boast 16ms rise and fall response times but the model I saw cost nearly $600 (Singapore dollars) more than the 193V.
I was wondering what the difference was between the Samsung 191N and the 193V.
I know the 191N is a decent monitor and it's only drawback is that is doesn't have a DVI in order to keep the cost down. I've seen both monitors in person and the only difference I can see is the 191N's bezel is 1/2" wide, while the 193V's bezel is about 3/4" wide.
Can anyone tell me anything else about the 193V? I can't seem to find any info about it on the internet.
Thanks
We've had nothing but trouble with the monitors (Samsung 191T). We purchased 4 of them about 7 months ago and all 4 have failed. Problems include the screen dimming to the point where you can't see anything, refresh rate malfunction, and "shadows" cluttering up the screen. Samsung has replaced them with rebuilt units. However, I'm not too impressed with the quality of this product.
I have just purchased a Samsung 193v from a Toronto Costco. It is amazing. I compared it to an 18" Viewsonic that had a higher contrast ration but the Samsung was superior in every visual way. It doesn't rotate, so my question is: "Is the two month old 19" 193v a lower end version than the 191?"
Having seen my review reference I thought it was time to give you an update of the Samsung 191T. I still love it. See no defects in any mode or game play. I don't tend to use the Portrait mode much partly because I use dual screens, but also because it is very stiff to rotate. But works well. I originally had a Geforce 4200 card, but have since upgrade to a ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. Works just as well, except I now play all games at 1280x1024x32.
I am not sure why Mike had the problems he had, but could have been a bad cable or DVI port. I could never go back to using a 15 or 17" LCD screen, but I am spoiled and can afford the best. But the price of healthy computing can't be minimized and prices have sure come down. Remember you replace your monitor much less often then your computer.
Well, I had different problems than Mike. However, none of them any good. I made a major purchase (66 191t's) for my company. That was 6 months ago. Since that time I've had to return 24 of them for failing. Most did the same thing, that is the screen could not refresh fast enough. If you move the mouse you you would have to stop and wait 3 seconds for it to appear someplace on the screen. If you open an application, it would fade in like a very good fade shot on a video. Other than this problem we've been very happy with the product. Samsung has worked with us and has replaced each one that has malfunctioned. Just be prepared for potential problems. Hope we are the only ones with this problem.
I`m coosing monitor and I was told that 191T and X82 have the same matrix, but eclectronics in Sony is better. Didn`t have a chance to see 191t with games and DVD but X82 always used in Russia on store stands to show game. After previous message think that I`ll take X82
Thanx a lot.
Samsung 191t sure received a lot of good reviews according to days of research I did on the web. Although i was very disappointed in the stated 25ms pixel response time, there is just know way that can be right. When my fish screen saver kicks in the fish actually stutter and when watching tv in full screen mode with my ATI Radeon video card on the fox news channel where text scrolls at the bottom of the screen it also stutters. Another big problem with this monitor is if you turn your sitting lights down low then fill the screen with black with the monitors backlite on you can see white like streaks and uneven white color, I thought at first it was something on the screen.when i called Samsung Tec support they tried to have me wipe it off with no luck it just got worst something strange is happening under the screen. Well the drivers were installed fresh from samsungs web site and we tried 3 different monitors all with the same problems - the white streaks were in different spots on each monitor. I really loved this 191t and called every body including Samsung many of times trying to correct the problems with no luck, so i did return it back to the stores where i had purchased them.In my research I did find a couple of other monitors i liked including the SONY SDM x82. It did not seem to get as good of reviews but let me tell you this monitor has none of - and i mean non of the problems the 191t has. Its video playing DVD and fox news with its scrolling text is perfect plus this thing is so bright i could light up my entire house, images and text look 3 dimensional, color is vivid bright and sharp. I will have to say that it was hard to let go of that Samsung 191t but i just could not handle those major problems it had. The quality of the SONY's cabinet was flawless while the 191t had manufacturing blemishes. By the way i have not tried any games yet on the SONY and deffently found the samsung to be totally unacceptable for any fast pace or even slow paced gaming.
