Sharp's e-Book Viewer to Run on GNU/Linux


Tokyo (JCNN) - Sharp (TSE: 6753) announced today that its proprietary e-book viewer for PDAs will run on GNU/Linux and be available for free download on Space Town, the company's website at http://www.spacetown.ne.jp/, beginning September 10.

Consequently, the SL-A300, Sharp's latest Zaurus model running GNU/Linux, will have 3,700 titles available, published from the Zaurus e-book service.

The company has also upgraded Mobile Document Format (XMDF), a format for the Zaurus e-book service, to support a variety of multimedia functions such as video replay capability.
